Debtor receipts allow me to record overpayments (i.e. where the receipted funds are greater than the amount owing on the file), but trust transfers do not. Why?

The trust transfer is a one-way transaction that moves funds from trust to general. You cannot transfer more than the available balance on trust and, likewise, you cannot transfer more than the outstanding debtor balance on the file. ContactsLaw only permits trust transfers up to and including the amount that is subject to the power.
